Rachel and Anne Vincent are doing something slightly mad – abseiling off the top of one of the spectator stands at Leicester Tigers Rugby Club to raise money for Christian Aid. We’d really appreciate your support.

It’s easy, fast and totally secure. JustGiving sends your donation straight to Christian Aid and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, automatically reclaims Gift Aid on Christian Aid’s behalf, making your donation go further. What’s more, JustGiving will never spam you or sell your details, so I hope you’ll join me in supporting Christian Aid.
Incidentally, Christian Aid don’t raise money just to help Christians, as apparently some folk think! They are basically a group of Christians and other like-minded people, doing all they can to help people in need, regardless of ethnicity, creed, gender etc. Christian Aid’s policy is to fund Partners’ who are Non – Governmental Organisations working for and with their local communities to help things to get better. They apply to Christian Aid for project funding and if the funding is granted, the organisations are continually monitored regarding progress and accountability. The main idea is to help people to help themselves, because they know what the real need is and want to sort it out. Obviously when a major disaster strikes this triggers a crisis response mechanism, any local partner organisations in the emergency area quickly become fully involved in helping out. For instance in the Hiati earthquake, Christian Aid’s partner there dug themselves out of their collapsed office and immediately set about organising emergency aid for those who had lost everything.
Although nothing and no-one is ever perfect, we believe that Christian Aid gives really good value for money They are passionate about trying to not only respond to poverty – but to initiate changes that bring about an end to poverty. So Please help us to help them to help make P*OVER*TY.

A message from Rachel:
I am terrified of heights and don’t think that I actually want to do this. Although I am fascinated in how long it will take my vomit to hit the ground. So how on earth did I come to the conclusion that I should do this? Well, the Tigers are the Greatest Rugby Team in the World and so Welford Road is in my top three places to die. And if I survive the drop, the Leicester Royal Infirmary is just across the road for instant medical assistance.
Seriously though, I work for Christian Aid, I love it. I love that we enable people in poverty to get out of poverty. We help people of all faiths and none, just whoever needs it by working through local partners in the countries who know how best to support those who need it most with viable, longterm solutions, so that they can have hope for a brighter future. Oh and we hassle governments to change international laws which keep people poor, so we’re really very holistic! I honestly believe that there is no better international development organisation and I won’t work for anyone else. www.christianaid.org.uk if you want to learn more.
